The Real Reason Your Audience Isn’t Buying (Hint: You Haven’t Asked)
Let me tell you a story that’s equal parts embarrassing and enlightening.
Picture this: I’m on a Zoom networking call, feeling confident, camera on, lashes poppin’ and then, mid-sentence, one of my magnetic eyelashes peaces out.
Not a graceful slide.
Not a slow lift.
Just – plop.
Right next to my keyboard. During a meeting.
Naturally, I took a picture because I knew this humiliation would be funny…later.
But That’s Not Where the Story Ends
A few days later, I wrote a product review on the MoxieLash website explaining why I switched from magnetic lashes to a different style. I wasn’t angry, just honest.
What I didn’t expect was this:
The founder of the company asked me if I’d be willing to tell him more about my experience.
Not to pitch.
Not to defend.
But to ask what went wrong.
He wasn’t looking for praise. He was looking for pain points.
We got on a call and talked for 90 minutes. He asked what frustrated me, what confused me, what made me hesitate to try other products.
And then he took that info and used it.
✅ He updated some product education.
✅ Reworked his emails.
✅ Sent me a follow-up message asking for feedback on those changes.
I was floored. And also, a superfan for life.
Most People Don’t Tell You What’s Wrong.
They Just Leave.
Let’s be real: most customers aren’t going to message you with detailed feedback. They’ll just ghost.
Clicked the sales page. Didn’t buy.
Put it in their cart. Abandoned it.
Open the email. No reply.
The just…disappear.
The real magic happens when you’re bold enough to ask:
“What almost made you buy… and what made you stop?”
Your Challenge This Week
If you want your offer to land, you have to stop guessing.
Reach out to one person who didn’t buy.
Not to sell. Just to understand.
Here’s a script you can steal:
“Hey! I’m not trying to change your mind, just trying to get better. Would you be open to sharing what made you pause or hold off?”
Then listen.
No pitch.
No defense.
Just collect data.
And once you have some great insights, head over to the Business Strategy Coach Bot on my site (it’s free, it’s private, no email required), share the feedback you received and ask for help sharpening your offer and spot exactly what’s missing.
You don’t need a whole new funnel.
You probably just need to hear what someone didn’t say out loud.
Sometimes, the thing that’s holding your client back is just as small as a lash not sticking because they didn’t let the mascara fully dry.
